On Photography & Teaching
If you’ve made it this far, you probably want to know more about me. I taught at undergraduate and graduate levels for nearly 25 years. I witnessed the transition from traditional tools to a completely digital workflow during that time and had the opportunity to write courses on everything from the history of photography, to alternative processes, to bleeding edge digital printing techniques. Honing my craft is a never ending journey, and one I have enjoyed immensely.
Now I work in the commercial and advertising field of photography, collaborating with a wide range of clients on projects from architectural to product, aerial, retouching, and everything in between. If you want a photographer with a deep knowledge of the craft of photography from conception to final deliverables, let’s work together..
On Printing
To put it simply—I love to print. For more than 30 years I have been immersed in the world of printing in both traditional and digital darkrooms. Whether it is through building and teaching courses at institutions of higher learning, or through personal projects and client work, I have the experience to make your images look great.
You can trust me with your photography. I’ve worked with dozens of printers ranging from the original Epson Stylus Photo in 1997 to the venerable Epson Stylus Pro 7600 in 2002 and now the Epson Surecolor P9570. Because of this deep experience, I know the right path to help your work look great.
Beyond the hardware, the heart of image making is all about expressing the artists intent, which requires knowledge of substrate characteristics and ink sets, along with post production techniques to optimize files for best quality results. I’ve guided thousands of students and clients over the years and am confident in my ability to serve you.
My studio is located in Buchanan, Michigan, tucked away in the southwest corner of the state, just a stones throw from the lake, and 90 miles from Chicago.
Let’s work together.
